    Strengthening Associations in Africa: AfSAE Hosts 2nd Tanzania Associations Training Workshop Fostering Excellence: Tanzania Association & MICE Training Workshop ​ On February 21st and 22nd, 2024, the Julius Nyerere International Convention Center (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam hosted the highly anticipated Tanzania Association & MICE Training Workshop. Organized by the African Society of Association Executives (AfSAE), this prestigious event brought together leading figures from Tanzania's association landscape for an intensive two-day learning experience. The workshop aimed to empower participants with the knowledge and skills needed to enhance the effectiveness and impact of their associations. Renowned experts, including Gregg Talley and Jeffers Miruka, shared valuable insights and best practices on various crucial topics. These included the fundamentals of association management, membership development, communication strategies, and sustainable revenue generation. Additionally, the workshop delved into the exciting world of Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE), equipping participants with the expertise to navigate the complex world of event planning, marketing, and international conference bidding processes. ​ The workshop's impact extended beyond knowledge sharing. Recognizing the importance of fostering collaboration and growth within the Tanzanian association community, the event culminated in the formation of the AfSAE Tanzania Chapter. This exciting development, spearheaded by Chairperson Rodrick Nabe, Secretary Dr. Rose Reuben, and Treasurer Albertina Mella (founder of the Open Up Foundation), promises to become a catalyst for ongoing professional development and collaboration among associations in Tanzania. ​ The Tanzania Association & MICE Training Workshop concluded with a sense of accomplishment and renewed purpose. Equipped with new skills and strengthened networks, participants departed ready to leverage their newfound knowledge to empower their respective organizations and contribute significantly to the advancement of Tanzania's civil society. This event served as a testament to AfSAE's ongoing commitment to building capacity within the African association management landscape, ensuring the continued success and positive impact of associations across the continent.

They also have access to many great online features on the AfSAE site, however, their access is slightly limited compared to Full Members. ​ USD 75 / 12 months Become a Member Basic Professional Membership This membership is for individuals only Basic Professional Membership is a free membership that allows for members to have limited access to the AfSAE site. This Membership is great for those looking to see if Full or Supporting Membership is right for them. Members in this category do not have full website access or the ability to serve on AfSAE volunteer committees. ​ Free Become a Member International Supporter This membership is for individuals only This category is open to individual professionals based out of the African continent but with an interest in supporting AfSAE activities. International Supporters do not have voting rights and cannot hold office in AfSAE. However, they are listed in the membership directory/ website and receive digital newsletter. They can also submit content and are allowed to attend AfSAE events at member rates. USD 100 / 12 months Become a Member Organizational Supporter This is open to organizations based out of the African continent but with interest in supporting AfSAE activities. If the organization appoints an individual as their primary contact, that individual would enjoy all rights as a full member. If they opt not to appoint an individual as a member then they are not entitled to vote or hold an office but would be listed on the website and in the directory. They are allowed to submit content to AfSAE and attend events. ​ USD 250 / 12 months Become a Member African Association Member This is a corporate membership for African Associations.     History of AfSAE For several years an informal group of African Association Executives had gathered during Meetings Africa, under the auspices of the South African National Convention Bureau (SANCB), and talked about the need and desire to connect themselves and build an infrastructure to enable them to stay connected throughout the year. At Meetings Africa 2015 the topic was brought forward during Association Day to create the African Society of Association Executives (AfSAE). The group present enthusiastically agreed and formed an “Establishment Committee” made up of the following individuals: The AfSAE Establishment Committee Jeffers Miruka, African Association of Agricultural Economists, Kenya Olubunmi Owoso, Commonwealth Association of Polytechnics in Africa, Kenya Ibrahim Bangura, African Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Federation, Sierra Leone Diran Onifade, African Federation of Science Journalists, Nigeria Peninnah Kabenge Aligawesa, Federation of Africa University Sports, Uganda Chidorum Nwakanma, International Associations of Business Communicators, Nigeria George Sunguh, Port Management Association for Eastern and Southern Africa, Kenya Musa Mabandla, South African Neuroscience Society, Kwa-Zulu Natal Brian Ssennoga, The Free Software and Open Source Foundation for Africa, Ghana Kelvin Esiasa, Zambian Society for Public Administration, Zambia Victoria Lugey, Union of the Catholic African Press, Ghana Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe, Union for African Population Studies, Ghana Natalie Kensley, The Conference Company, Kwa-Zulu Natal Gregg Talley, Talley Management Group, Inc., USA Gary Grimmer, Gaining Edge, Australia The role of the Establishment Committee was to explore the possibility and options around the incorporation, formation, and management of an AfSAE. The conclusion was to formally incorporate in South Africa and launch at the 2016 Meetings, Africa. The Memorandum of Incorporation is available on the Members Only section of the website. ​ At Meetings Africa the Establishment Committee was disbanded and the first Board of Directors was voted into place as a slate by the Association Executives present. Elections and rotation of the Board will commence immediately per the By-Laws.
